Modernization of ball mills

Iron ore mining and processing plant, Russia

Tasks:

  • Development of a set of working documentation for the replacement of 5950x6700 mills and associated engineering systems: main drive electric motors MShTs 5950x6700 with a capacity of 5800 kW, voltage 6 kV, oil system, power supply, cooling, APCS system, reinforcement of the existing foundation.
  • Development of a schedule for the implementation of a set of construction and installation works and the output of mills to the planned mode, including the implementation of routine maintenance in 23 days.
  • Implementation of a set of construction and installation works in the conditions of existing production simultaneously at two mills.
  • Increase in the volume of ore mining and processing to 44 MTWg and concentrate production of two more mills to 19.6 MTWg.

Technical solution:
To avoid long downtimes of the even half-section during the work on replacing switchgear cabinets, busbars and reactors, a solution was developed, agreed with the Customer and implemented to transfer the even half-section to a temporary power supply scheme. In order to perform construction and installation work to strengthen the foundations of the mills within the established time frame, it was proposed to use concrete with the addition of polycarboxylate additives and accelerators to gain the required strength.

Uniqueness of the project:
Installation of larger-sized equipment in the existing technology, in a short time with the implementation of a set of installation and commissioning works in a single-stage mode. Simultaneous performance of work on power supply schemes with the replacement of power transformers at the main step-down substation(GPP) and the replacement of the equipment of the distribution point (DP). Additionally, it was necessary to strengthen the slab of the existing foundations, install the main units of the mills and electric motors.

Result:
Completion of a complex of construction and installation works, launch and operation of the mills within the established time frame.
